Bluewater Solar Farm is located on private land 7km north of Bluewater and approximately 38km north-west of Townsville in North Queensland. The site covers approximately 273ha of rural land currently used for cattle grazing.
Why this location?
The Bluewater Solar Farm site was chosen following extensive investigations of the region. Selection of the proposed site was driven principally, by two main factors. Firstly, this location has among the highest levels of solar irradiation in Australia. Secondly, the site is well located for exporting the solar farm’s electricity into the national electricity grid.
Aside from this, the site is relatively flat, has good accessibility from an existing major road corridor, the Bruce Highway, and due to its history of use for cattle grazing the project will have limited environmental impact.
